Before the Breakthrough
In 1988, Vincent Sequeira founded Greenway Farms with 20 hectares, shortly thereafter Vito Rugani joined Vincent and together the pair pushed on with a drive to do things differently. Built on manual labour, the early years were spent experimenting in search of a better approach to sustainable farming in South Africa.
It became clear that traditional methods couldn’t scale. Low efficiency and limited productivity demanded a new system. One grounded in agricultural innovation.
The choice was simple: follow convention or challenge it.
They chose differently.
They chose rebellion.
The Pivot
In 1995, a trip to Australia revealed what was possible when human expertise meets advanced machinery.
The insight was clear: technology should amplify people, not replace them.
Back home, Greenway Farms mechanised, specialised and rebuilt its operations around precision farming and agricultural innovation. The result was a scalable, high-performance system that redefined how sustainable farming in South Africa could operate.
THE LEGACY OF FIRSTS

Full Mechanisation
Transitioned from manual labour to fully mechanised operations, improving efficiency, consistency and output across large-scale carrot farming and modern agricultural systems.
2000
Hydrocooling Pioneer
First in Southern Africa to pioneer hydrocooling technology, extending shelf life shelf life and enhancing quality across fresh produce supply chains and agricultural distribution.
2015
Juice Production
Expanded into value-added production, transforming carrots into premium juice through vertical integration and agricultural processing innovation.
